Stephani Michel

Stephani is an appellate advocate whose practice focuses on appeals and proceedings in Texas and federal appellate courts. In addition to drafting briefs, presenting oral arguments, and helping clients navigate the appellate process, Stephani has experience in assisting trial teams with all stages of trial. The broad subject-matter of her practice spans from complex commercial disputes to litigation implicating oil and gas issues, trust and estates law, bankruptcy, and more.

Stephani has played significant roles in multiple appellate victories for Tillotson Johnson &Patton’s clients. For example, she has assumed substantial drafting roles in appeals successfully reversing a $30-plus million judgment rendered against our client in a breach of contract suit following a bench trial, and affirming a take-nothing summary judgment in favor of our client in a suit involving breach of fiduciary duty and fraud claims. Stephani has also presented oral argument in several appeals, helping to secure affirmance of an order denying an opposing party’s special appearance in a business torts suit and denial of summary judgment against ourclient in a Winter Storm Uri dispute.

Prior to joining the firm, Stephani practiced in the appellate group at Bracewell LLP. Before that, she clerked for the Honorable Gregg J. Costa of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Stephani graduated with high honors from the University of Texas School of Law, where she was named a Chancellor at Large. Before attending law school, she worked as a Certified Public Accountant in the oil and gas industry.
